Efficient reduced-basis treatment of nonaffine and nonlinear partial differential equations

چکیده
In this paper, we extend the reduced-basis approximations developed earlier for linear elliptic and parabolic partial differential equations with affine parameter dependence to problems involving (a) nonaffine dependence on the parameter, and (b) nonlinear dependence on the field variable. The method replaces the nonaffine and nonlinear terms with a coefficient function approximation which then permits an efficient offline-online computational decomposition. We first review the coefficient function approximation procedure: the essential ingredients are (i) a good collateral reduced-basis approximation space, and (ii) a stable and inexpensive interpolation procedure. We then apply this approach to linear nonaffine and nonlinear elliptic and parabolic equations; in each instance, we discuss the reduced-basis approximation and the associated offline-online computational procedures. Numerical results are presented to assess our approach. Mathematics Subject Classification. 35J25, 35J60, 35K15, 35K55. Received April 5, 2006. Revised November 1st, 2006.

An Efficient Reduced-Order Approach for Nonaffine and Nonlinear Partial Differential Equations
In the presence of nonaffine and highly nonlinear terms in parametrized partial differential equations, the standard Galerkin reduced order approach is no longer efficient, because the evaluation of these terms involves high computational complexity. An efficient reduced-order approach is developed to deal with “nonaffineness” and nonlinearity. The efficiency and accuracy of the approach are de...
متن کاملA Posteriori Error Bounds for Reduced Basis Approximations of Nonaffine and Nonlinear Parabolic Partial Differential Equations
We present a posteriori error bounds for reduced basis approximations of parabolic partial differential equations involving (i) a nonaffine dependence on the parameter and (ii) a nonlinear dependence on the field variable. The method employs the Empirical Interpolation Method in order to construct “affine” coefficient-function approximations of the “nonaffine” (or nonlinear) parametrized functi...
متن کاملAn efficient reduced-order modeling approach for non-linear parametrized partial differential equations
For general non-linear parametrized partial differential equations (PDEs), the standard Galerkin projection is no longer efficient to generate reduced-order models. This is because the evaluation of the integrals involving the non-linear terms has a high computational complexity and cannot be pre-computed. This situation also occurs for linear equations when the parametric dependence is nonaffi...
متن کاملThe use of radial basis functions by variable shape parameter for solving partial differential equations
In this paper, some meshless methods based on the local Newton basis functions are used to solve some time dependent partial differential equations. For stability reasons, used variably scaled radial kernels for constructing Newton basis functions. In continuation, with considering presented basis functions as trial functions, approximated solution functions in the event of spatial variable wit...
